Our classmate, William Liao, actually has a mother that lived on the Ramapo Fault while living in Fort Lee as a child. Many years ago, there was an eathquake that hit her town. To help our improved plan, William interviewed her. This was her story.
Q: What happened that day?
A: I was only a little girl when it happened. It was about 6 in the morning, and I was sleeping. Suddendly, my room shook! My porcelain dolls were falling all over the place, and my bed was violently shaking. Being that I was young, and not aware that I lived on a fault, I was unsure of what to do. I then crouched under a table as everything around me fell to the ground.
Q: What happened afterwards?
A: When the shaking subsided, I crawled back out from under the table. Even though my room was a mess, I was miraculously unscathed.
Q: What would be your advice to those who may experience an earthquake?
A: My advice is to really just be aware to where you live and if you are on a fault. I did not know!
